Competition 2024
The Pheonix - Rising From the Ashes!
We are very proud of the results of the 2024 competition. It was tough as there was a loss of knowledge due to the club being inactive the previous year. Nevertheless, we pushed on as a team to learn and accomplished our goal of successfully flying the plane at competition!
Here's some of us at the competition right before we flew our first mission! Shout out to our pilot, J, from University of Washington Seattle!
The list of rules was lengthy, but the rules that guided our design process the most this year were that the plane had to...
- Fit in a 2.5' wide space in parking configuration.
- Have a maximum of a 5' wingspan.
- Fly with only "pilot" dolls for mission 1.
- Carry a 3x3x3.5 inch medical supply crate and "patient" doll with custom gurney for mission 2.
- Carry as many "passenger" dolls as possible for mission 3.
To meet this criteria, we made the wings and tail foldable, as seen in the CAD drawings below.
We came out of this competition ecstatic with the outcome - especially considering our resources (or lack thereof) compared to our competition. In addition to actually being able to fly, we talked to many other teams of varying sizes to learn how they operate. With all that we learned this year, we are excited and motivated to crush next year's competition!
Below is our Design Day poster, presented at an engineering fair at the end of the school year.
